Splitting A Box With Two Friends

12-Feb-10

I wasn’t planning on buying anymore Worldwake last night but a few friends decided to play some sealed so we picked up a box. First sealed game I get my six packs a I pulled a Mythic Omnath, Locus of Mana, now I’m generally not a green player but it was a very decent pull. Second game again I get my six packs and this time I pull a Wrexial, the Risen Deep. I love this card, 98% of the time I play blue/black so this card is an instant winner.

That did it for the box, two mythic rares in six packs (not bad). Just before the end of the night I decide to buy 2 more packs for the road. I wasn’t even going to open them but my friends wanted to see my pulls. The first pack I opened I got a wicked man land Lavaclaw Reaches and then I opened my final pack of the night and pulled my first Jace, the Mind Sculptor. All told I opened 14 packs and pulled 3 mythic rares! Not a bad night for MTG at all.

Just plain AWESOME. I love this card.

Let me know what you guys think. In my opinion one of the best cards to come out of Worldwake. I think this card will be seeing play long after the block has been forgotten.

Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder

12-Feb-10

After listening to MTGCastSummon Elder Dragon” episode 2 I started thinking a lot about how fun a Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder EDH deck would be. The deck that was posted on MTGCast.com certainly had a number of cards that worked well with Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder but not everyone fit. One thing I love to do with an EDH deck is make all the pieces fit perfectly (when I say perfectly it doesn’t mean perfectly effective, it means perfectly themed). I love building based on a theme. That doesn’t have to be creature type it could be a recurring tech but whatever it is I like all the pieces to fit together. For me EDH is more about style points than victory points.

I’m going to spend the day messing around with this deck and will post the decklist just before I head to the game.

Opened My First Box Of Worldwake

12-Feb-10

I know everyone has opened a ton of boxes already but I did get a chance to open any boxes until tonight. With my first box I didn’t get an Abyssal Persecutor or a Jace, the Mind Sculptor but I was very happy with my pulls. I think my favourite was the Creeping Tar Pit I pulled. I play a lot of blue black EDH decks and this card will be a staple in all of them. I do plan to open another box tomorrow, I will be hoping I can pull at least one of the big guys in that one. The one thing I really like about mostly playing EDH Magic, is I only need to make one set of cards and not four sets like you would normally have to make playing standard Magic.

Please leave comments I would love to hear about other pulls people have made.

Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet – EDH Decklist

10-Feb-10

I built this deck because I love playing themed decks & because with the recent Zendicar block Vampires have been getting lot of love. This deck has 26 Vampires many I have never used before. More…

Butcher of Malakir

09-Feb-10

Butcher of Malakir, was just released with Worldwake and for someone like myself that actually runs a Vampire themed EDH deck no sweeter addition could be made. All your opponent know that killing one of your creatures will destroy one of their creatures. The best part however is in the wording “sacrifice”. EDH Magic is being dominated right now by shroud and indestructibility and although destroy can’t even mark them sacrifice gets them every time, making this a fantastic card for any black deck, vampire themed or not.

Card type: Creature
Creature type: Vampire Warrior
Power/Toughness:5/4
Casting cost: 5
Card text: Flying
Whenever Butcher of Malakir or another creature you control is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, each opponent sacrifices a creature.
Oracle text: Flying
Whenever Butcher of Malakir or another creature you control is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, each opponent sacrifices a creature.
Flavor text: His verdict is always guilty. His sentence is always death.
Artist: Jason Chan
Rarity: Rare

I would love to hear your thoughts on how you plan to use the new Butcher of Malakir.

Sensei’s Divining Top

09-Feb-10

Here is a car I just started using in all my EDH decks just because of its awesome ability to quickly look through your library. This is an uncommon originally from Champions of Kamigawa that was also reprinted in From the Vault. Sensei’s Divining Top is currently selling for about $7 each. I can’t help but wonder if this has something to do with the EDH format.

Card type: Artifact
Casting cost: 1
Card text: 1: Look at the top three cards of your library, then put them back in any order.
T: Draw a card, then put Sensei’s Divining Top on top of its owner’s library.
Oracle text: 1: Look at the top three cards of your library, then put them back in any order.
Tap: Draw a card, then put Sensei’s Divining Top on top of its owner’s library.

Single Cards Examined

09-Feb-10

Single Cards Examined will take a look at individual MTG cards and discuss their effectiveness within the EDH environment. If your new to the EDH format you will quickly realize that cards you may have dismissed can became exceptional within this format.
